Cards and QR

Cards, QR codes and what to do when a tap fails

How a card works, what to do when one will not tap, and how to replace a lost one.

A Premo card is a piece of plastic with a chip in it and a QR code printed on the back. Hold it near a customer's phone and their review page opens. No app, nothing to install, nothing for them to sign up to.

How to use one on a job

Hand it over as you are leaving, while the work is still fresh. Hold the card flat against the back of the phone, near the top. Most phones take about a second.

If nothing happens, turn the card over and let them point the camera at the QR code. That always works, on every phone, and it is worth going to straight away rather than trying the tap three times.

When a tap does not work

Almost always one of three things.

NFC is off. Common on Android, where it is a setting that can be switched off, and on older handsets. The QR code is the answer.

It is an older iPhone. Every iPhone from the XS onwards reads a card from the lock screen. Before that, the camera and the QR code.

The phone has a thick case, or a metal one, or a card holder on the back. Ask them to hold the card against the front of the phone instead, or use the QR code.

Replacing a lost card

Order a replacement from the card's page in your dashboard. A lost card should be deactivated at the same time, which stops it opening your review page if somebody finds it.

A deactivated card cannot be brought back. Order a new one instead.

Moving a card between people

Cards belong to a person, and that is what makes per-person scores work. If somebody leaves, reassign their card from their profile rather than letting the next person carry it: reviews collected on it will otherwise be filed under the person who left.
